We have now managed over 500,000 emails for customers through our N-Defender Mail Security Solution and have stopped 86.6% of mail as spam mail. Nevis Computers celebrated 10 successful years in business by holding 2 Open Days on 19th/20th April.

As part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations, Nevis Computers gave away the 1000th PC ordered completely FREE of charge. This was won by Angela Newark of Martin & Co Shipley and Keighley. This new computer is for their new offices at 103 Saltaire Road, Shipley. Martin & Co is the UK’s no1 letting agent, a franchise organisation with 115 offices across the UK, and Angela has been a customer of Nevis Computers since she began trading from Shipley in July last year. They have now moved into new shopfront premises at 103 Saltaire Road, Saltaire and 65 Low Street, Keighley, to cope with the growing demand for rental property in the Airevalley.

Microsoft update recently released a patch that conflicted with the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel on certain machines causing an "Illegal system DLL Redirection Error" message on boot.

To obtain the patch file to fix this issue please send a blank e-mail to patch@nevis.co.uk. The patch and instructions for fix this issue will be automatically e-mailed to you.

We are still finding users upgrading Norton Anti Virus or Internet Security online and then finding their PC slow or having added problems.

We wrote to the mailing list in October last year advising "After carrying out various tests we have decided to recommend KASPERSKY Internet Security. It will come as no surprise to us that you have not heard of this, but be assured that we recommend this based on our experience of providing security for over 1000 computers. We will be only too happy to provide details of why we recommend Kaspersky but essentially it is quicker; provides more frequent updates and catches more threats than Norton.

Virus Bulletin has just awarded Kaspersky their VB100 award for Windows XP and Windows Vista. During testing, it detected and removed 100% of all the malicious programs used in the test.

If you are considering upgrading your existing computer to Windows Vista we recommend you speak to us first to find out whether your PC is compatible or if there are any other issues you should consider before purchase. It has been estimated that 85% of home computers may not have sufficient memory or graphics to run all the features of Vista. There are 8 versions of Vista and it is essential to ensure you obtain the version you require. Changing later by buying an upgrade version is expensive.

Vista is evolutionary. It has improved search facilities, handles photos, music and movies better and has an attractive new interface called Aero which uses 3D graphics to create a translucent glass effect that appears to float above the background screen. It has also been designed to be more secure and hopefully more stable.

Vista Home Basic DOES NOT have the new Aero interface. This only comes with Vista Home Premium, Vista Business or Vista Ultimate.

The best time to move to Microsoft's Windows Vista is with a new PC. If you want to see and test drive Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 we have PC's in our showroom. Come and see the future.

These are now available and we can incorporate them into your new PC. However before you decide to upgrade your existing computer to Windows Vista we recommend you speak to us to find out whether your PC is compatible or if there are any other issues you should consider before purchase.

Microsoft have also released their update to Microsoft Office being Office 2007. Again there are a variety of options being Home and Student, Basic, Standard, Small Business, Professional and Ultimate. Some are only available with a new PC and again we recommend you speak with us to consider which option is best for you or available to you. The new Office 2007 Home and Student is only available as a retail pack or with a new PC and is for non Commercial use.
